Daniolabs
www.daniolabs.comDanioLabs is a drug discovery company that uses zebrafish to discover and develop novel therapeutics primarily in neurological and ophthalmological diseases. Zebrafish as an experimental species provide significant benefits in the drug discovery process. They produce tiny, transparent offspring, that share some significant physiological and pharmacological similarities to humans, not least that they are vertebrates. Their size allows them to be used to evaluate the effects of compounds in human disease models in 96 well plate format. Therefore, high-throughput in-vivo assays are possible.
In December 2004, DanioLabs completed its 1st institutional fund raising, which raised £3.2M led by the Cambridge Gateway Fund, together with Merifin and Northern Venture Managers. This investment follows on from previous investments from The Wellcome Trust, the Cambridge University Challenge Fund, and several Cambridge Biotech entrepreneurs.
STOP PRESS: Daniolabs acquired by VASTox plc, a leading UK biotech, for £15m in late March.
