www.entrepreneurs.jbs.cam.ac.ukThe Centre for Entrepreneurial Learning at the Cambridge University's Judge Business School was launched on 1st September 2003 with a mission to 'Spread the spirit of Enterprise' by providing educational activities to inspire and build skills in the practice of entrepreneurship.
CfEL aims to:
• Develop a portfolio of courses that inspire, and enable the start-up and growth of ventures
• Respond to the needs of students, Departments and Colleges within the University of Cambridge
• To share best practice with the wider community through networks and collaboration
• Build a great team of teachers
• Deliver excellence
CfEL's programmes range from elective modules in undergraduate and postgraduate programmes, Enterprise Tuesday - an evening programme for staff and students of the University of Cambridge, and open programmes for novice entrepreneurs such as the Summer School and Enterprisers
Staff
Shai started his working career in small companies, leaving to complete his MBA and PhD at Cranfield School of Management, where he stayed on the faculty for ten years, before taking up a Chair in Enterprise at Nottingham Business School. In 1990 he co-founded Transitions, combining his academic interests with the practical 'how-to' for businesses. As a result of this he has worked with over 400 businesses in workshops, consulting assignments through his business Transitions and as coach, mentor and non-executive director. He is on the editorial board of the International Small Business Journal and the Journal of Strategic Change. He is Visiting Professor at Nottingham Business School and at the University of Reading. | Jo is the Programme Manager for Teaching and Training at the CfEL. This involves the management of around 20 initiatives each academic year. Prior to this Jo was Business Manager for the MBI Training Programme at UCL's Advanced Centre of Biochemical Engineering. Jo also has a PhD in Biochemical Engineering gained from UCL and in collaboration with Unilever Research in Vlaardingen, The Netherlands, and has recently completed an MBA through the Open University Business School |
Yupar joined CfEL in 2003 as a Programme Manager, she is currently involved in the management of the Summer School and training for the i10 Enterprise Fellowship Scheme. She completed her MBA at the Judge Institute in 2002, where for her dissertation, she undertook an analysis of the critical success factors for hi-tech companies in the Cambridge Cluster. Prior to this, Yupar has four years successful business development and entrepreneurship experience in South East Asia. Her research interests include social capital, entrepreneurial venture creation, business development, the Cambridge cluster, entrepreneurial training and education and project planning. Yupar has had an article published in the International Journal of Project Management. | Hermann has a long history of success as a venture capitalist and entrepreneur. Companies he founded or co-founded include Acorn Computers, Active Book Company, Virata, Net Products, NetChannel, and Cambridge Network Limited. He was a founder director of IQ (Bio), IXI Limited, Vocalis, SynGenix, Advanced Displays Limited, Electronic Share Information Limited and E*Trade UK . However, Hermann's influence on the European computer and technology industry cannot be reflected in lists. Thanks to his work in the nascent personal computer industry in the UK in the 1980s, through his work at Acorn Computers and as vice president of research at Olivetti, Hermann has been instrumental in a vast range of industry developments. At Amadeus, Hermann continues to oversee a broad range of early and later stage developing technology companies, providing the benefit of his experience of turning scientific advances into real-world technology products to a new generation of entrepreneurs. Hermann holds an MA in Physics from Vienna University and a PhD in Physics from the Cavendish Laboratory at King's College, Cambridge . He is a Fellow of the Institute of Physics and of the Royal Academy of Engineering, an Honorary Fellow of King's College, Cambridge , Hermann holds honorary doctorates from the Universities of Bath, Loughborough and from Anglia Polytechnic, and was awarded an Honorary CBE for "innovative service to the UK enterprise sector" in 2001. |
