Taylor Vinters is a full service law firm with 200 lawyers and support staff all under one roof. It offers a seamless service based on long term relationships - more than 80% of its income comes from repeat business from existing clients.

The Commercial and Technology Team within Taylor Vinters specialises in serving the legal needs of clients working in a wide range of technology sectors both regionally, nationally and internationally.

It is a team of three partners, two associates and three assistant solicitors. Four of the team have practised in foreign jurisdictions and one is dual US/UK qualified. In addition two of the team have postgraduate qualifications in the natural sciences.

Much of the team's work involves cross border transactions, particularly in Europe and the US, but also in the Middle East and Asia, working on such matters as the licensing in and out of technology, distribution and supply arrangements, IT outsourcing agreements, joint ventures and contract manufacture.

Staff

Christine Berry, Managing Partner

Christine Berry was elected as managing partner in 1998 and is now serving a third term to April 2009.
Christine is a graduate of the University of Cambridge with an honours degree in law.
She is a second career lawyer, having previously worked in book publishing in London. She was a director of Arlington Books (Publishers) Ltd handling contracts and managing the sale of rights for authors including Jilly Cooper, Leslie Thomas and Anthony Horowitz.
Christine joined Taylor Vinters and qualified as a solicitor in 1992 specialising in commercial litigation. She was made a partner in 1996.
Since taking up the role of Managing Partner, Christine\'s interests have focused on developing the firm as a dynamic business modelled on the entrepreneurial clients the firm represents. This has helped the firm to undergo a major transformation and break out of the mould of the traditional law firm. Under Christine\'s leadership, the firm has achieved substantial growth to become one of the UK\'s leading regional firms. Taylor Vinters\' distinctive approach has led to the firm developing a nationally-recognised reputation for its "focused and entrepreneurial" attitude to delivering legal services.
Christine is a member of the CBI\'s regional Council for the East of England. She is also an executive committee member of the Law Society\'s Law Management Section. In 2005, Christine was on the judge\'s panel for the Cambridge Evening News Business Excellence Awards. Other memberships include: The Institute of Directors and the Managing Partners\' Forum. Through Christine\'s involvement with the Prince\'s Trust, the Trust is a regular beneficiary of the firm\'s pro bono activities.
Patrick Farrant, Partner

After studying law at the University of London, Patrick trained with Frere Cholmeley and qualified in 1989. He joined Eversheds in 1990 and became a partner in 1995.
Patrick joined Taylor Vinters as a partner in May 2005.
Patrick is a commercial lawyer specialising in the exploitation of intellectual property, particularly relating to biotechnology matters. He is a member of the Solicitors' European Group, APPI, and the Licensing Executive Society. Patrick has both Swiss and English passports and speaks fluent French
Matt Meyer, Partner

Matt graduated from Exeter University with a BA (Hons) in Geography before studying law as a post graduate. Matt trained and qualified with Eversheds LLP and subsequently practised in New Zealand with one of the New Zealand’s leading law firms, Bell Gully. Prior to joining Taylor Vinters, Matt headed up the IT and E-Commerce Law Team in the Cambridge office of Eversheds LLP.
Matt principally acts for companies involved in IT and outsourcing transactions. Much of his work involves contract drafting and negotiation. Specific areas of expertise include business process re-engineering around new technologies, IT outsourcing, software licensing, integration and implementation, revenue recognition, system acquisitions, OEM and distribution deals, e-gaming, e-commerce partnerships and data protection.
Matt has a particular interest in acting for US software companies and assists US clients and their European subsidiaries with establishing sales channels and negotiating licence deals in Europe.
Heather Haughian, Associate

Before becoming a lawyer, Heather graduated from Murray State University in Environmental/Chemical Engineering and worked as an engineer in the environmental sector. She then attended Duke University Law School, graduated law school in 1998 and began her career in litigation at Hunton & Williams in Atlanta, Georgia before moving over to the Intellectual Property team at Alston & Bird in June 2002 where she worked until she moved to the UK. Heather qualified as an English lawyer in 2004 and began her practice in the UK at Eversheds LLP. She joined Taylor Vinters in June 2005 as an Associate in the Commercial and Technology Team.
Heather has experience with transactions allowing companies to develop, leverage, exploit and transfer their intellectual property in the areas of electronic commerce, information technology/software, biotechnology and the music industry. Her practice includes advice in intellectual property protection covering patents, copyrights, trade secrets, IP addresses and trade marks, counselling in product marketing, privacy protection, licensing strategies, and negotiating outsourcing and other complex business relationships.
