Stem Cell Sciences is an international research and development company specialising in the provision of stem cells and stem cell technologies for research and the clinic.

Stem Cell Sciences has a track record of commercialisation with international biotechnology and pharmaceutical companies including Pfizer, Sanofi-Aventis, GSK, Chemicon, Deltagen and Lexicon.

Stem Cell Sciences has been active in the stem cell research field since 1994, principally focused on technologies to grow, differentiate, and purify embryonic and neural stem cells. The Company now has a substantial portfolio of patents and patent applications in both adult and embryonic stem cell fields. These include technologies to permit the generation of highly purified stem cells and their differentiated progeny for use in genetic, pharmacological and toxicological screens. Moreover, these technologies can be used to provide pure populations of appropriate cell types for transplantation therapies.

Stem Cell Sciences’ core objective is to develop safe and effective stem cell-based therapies for currently incurable diseases.

Dr Alastair J. Riddell, Chief Executive Officer

Dr Riddell was appointed Chief Executive Officer of Stem Cell Sciences in November 2007. As a longstanding bioentrepreneur with more than 24 years experience in the industry, Dr Riddell spent considerable time at Board level building companies, raising money and negotiating corporate deals. From 2006 to 2007 he held the position of Non Executive Chairman at Surface Therapeutics prior to its sale to Serentis in September 2007. From 2005, he was Chief Executive Officer of Paradigm Therapeutics where he achieved a successful trade sale to Takeda Pharmaceutical Corporation in March 2007. Prior to Paradigm, Dr Riddell was Chief Executive Officer of Pharmagene for 7 years, during which time he successfully listed the company on the main market of the London Stock Exchange. He has also held senior positions with Celltech, Centocor and Amersham International in clinical development before moving to sales and marketing. Dr Riddell began his professional career as a medical doctor with six years experience in a variety of hospital specialties and in general practice. He is an active Board member of the BIA, a position he has held from 2000 to 2006 and recently re-elected to serve for the 2008 term. In November 2007 Dr Riddell joined the Board of Sareum Holdings plc as Non Executive Director.
Timothy Allsopp Ph D, Chief Scientific Officer

Dr. Allsopp joined Stem Cell Sciences as Chief Scientific Officer in 2000. Dr. Allsopp has led the design of research programs for Stem Cell Sciences' engagement in a number of high profile grant applications including a UK Government DTI Technology Program and two Sixth EU Framework programmes. As chief scientist for SCS plc, he is a member of the Stem Cell Sciences global alliance Scientific Advisory Board. Dr. Allsopp received his Ph.D from the Cell and Molecular Biology Department of Kings College London as a Medical Research Council student in the Cell Biophysics research unit. After research posts at the Max Planck Institute for Developmental Biology and St. George's Hospital Medical School, Dr. Allsopp joined the University of Edinburgh Institute for Neuroscience in 1994 on industry sponsorship from the Fujisawa Pharmaceuticals Co. Ltd. Dr. Allsopp acts on the editorial advisory panel of the Regenerative Medicine journal.
