Green Cathedral provides a complete range of digital communications planning and execution services including strategy, architecture, design, build, search engine positioning, online marketing, server management and performance measurement.
It was founded in 1996 by Dr Michael Woodley (ex Autonomy) and Paul Putwain (ex Fashion industry).
Green Cathedral also operates its own unique in-house technology cultivator. The first major technology creation was Clickstream, a unique, patented and 100% accurate web tracking technology. Clickstream Technologies plc was demerged from Green Cathedral in 1999. The second, spun off in 2003, was Phonesync Limited, now one of the UK's most successful mobile data synchronisation companies.
Green Cathedral is the trading name of GCDM Limited which is owned by a holding company, Green Cathedral plc. It is a technology incubator without venture capital backing. Green Cathedral plc employs no staff and is run solely by a board of Directors, each with a wealth of commercial experience but with a profound thirst for innovation and invention.
Staff
Michael founded Green Cathedral in November 1996 with Paul Putwain. Michael holds an MA from the University Of Oxford (Balliol) and a PhD from the University of Cambridge (St. John's) where he researched and published widely in the field of nuclear magnetic resonance. Michael became a senior developer for computer recognition specialists, Cambridge Neurodynamics. At Neurodynamics, Michael christened and became Head Of Product Development for Autonomy Corporation. Michael co-founded Clickstream Technologies plc, a Cambridge-based Web analytics company that was created within Green Cathedral and fully demerged in 1999. | Paul co-founded Green Cathedral with Michael Woodley. Paul has an extensive commercial background in the petrochemical industry and spent 14 years with petrochemical supply company, Kurvers International, becoming General Manager and Director Designate. In 1982 his team were awarded the Queens Award For Export. Paul went on to develop his own commercial fashion brands, one of which he grew to five UK retail outlets and the other from a turnover of £30k to £1m in two years. Both enjoyed world-wide sales and one is now licensed internationally. |
David worked for seven years in general practise in a provincial accounting firm before joining a management consulting firm in 1982, specialising in the development and sale/exit of owner-managed businesses. Following the merger of the consulting firm with Neville Russell in 1993 (now Mazars), David was appointed a senior manager of the Business Advisory department. David was one of the first accredited “champions” of Mazars’ Entrepreneur's Compass programme, a framework of analysis, planning and development tools for medium sized corporates with turnover in the range £2m to £20m. While at Mazars, Green Cathedral’s auditors, David took charge of the accountancy and consulting work for Green Cathedral and developed a close working relationship with the founders Dr Woodley and Mr Putwain. In 2000, David joined Green Cathedral as Finance Director and was immediately familiar with the company’s businesses. In the same year, David successfully assisted in raising £3.7m of private equity R&D funding for Green Cathedral at a post-money valuation of £43m. David served as Finance Director for Clickstream Technologies plc from 1999 to 2002 and managed the company’s early fund-raising activities and its formal demerger. He now serves as Finance Director for Green Cathedral plc and its subsidiaries, including Phonesync Limited, to which he devotes approximately 30% of his time. |
