The vision is for the East of England is to create a leading economy, founded on a world class knowledge base, creativity and enterprise to improve the quality of life for all who live and work here.
EEDA aims to do this by:
1. Setting and shaping the direction of economic development in the region
2. Persuading and influencing others to bring resources together, so that innovative ways of solving challenging economic issues are found
3. Investing in imaginative projects that challenge the norm and will have a significant impact on economic development in the region.
These aims are delivered through the four key areas of Business Support, Enterprise Hubs, Investing in Communities, and Regional Renaissance.
Staff
Deborah became the chief executive of the East of England Development Agency in July 2008. She gained her first degree in politics and started her career in the engineering department of the London Borough of Newham. She moved to Birmingham where she spent two years managing a voluntary sector project, developing partnerships and community strategies. After joining Birmingham City Council as an economic development officer, Deborah worked on some large urban regeneration projects. During this period she also worked on major policy projects and public and private sector ventures while gaining a masters degree in economics. As head of corporate policy at Redcar and Cleveland Borough, Deborah was responsible for regeneration, social policy, partnerships and 'best value'. She was also a member of the National Charities Lotteries Board Advisory Committee in the North East. During this time she gained a second masters degree in management. Deborah then transferred to central government on secondment. Whilst at the Department of the Environment, Transport and the Regions in its modernisation team, Deborah worked on local government legislation. A move to the Audit Commission left Deborah responsible for inspections in the London region and management of corporate governance inspections in Walsall, Enfield and Hackney. Deborah held the post of chief executive of St Edmundsbury Borough Council and was also interim chief executive of Waveney District Council between January and March 2008. She was awarded an OBE in 2006 for services to local government. | Rachel joined EEDA from Peterborough City Council, where she headed the council's corporate communications and marketing unit. Previously, she worked in the rail industry for six years, including three years with Railtrack plc, where she was public affairs manager for the South West and London. She is a qualified journalist and a Member of the Institute of Public Relations. |
