BioWisdom Ltd, established in September 2000, builds Intelligence Networks which are used to support decision making in critical issues in all areas of the healthcare industry from early stage drug discovery and clinical development through to market profiling and due diligence on new products.

The BioWisdom team combines extensive experience of the pharmaceutical and biotechnology industries with proven expertise in life science software development.

BioWisdom's customers include Pfizer, GlaxoSmithKline and AstraZeneca.

Gordon Smith Baxter PhD, Chief Executive Officer Gordon Baxter has held several senior research positions within the pharmaceutical industry, working with a variety of companies, including Glaxo, Syntex and SmithKline Beecham. He was the founding entrepreneur of Pharmagene plc and held positions as Chief Scientific Officer, Chief Operating Officer and Non-Executive Director with the Company until its successful flotation on the London Stock Exchange in July 2000. He has a successful track record of innovation in drug discovery and has contributed to the development of several marketed drugs.

Julie Barnes PhD, Chief Scientific Officer Julie Barnes leads the Life Science Team at BioWisdom, which is responsible for the creation and editing of the BioWisdom ontologies, and for validating their use in a pharmaceutical R&D setting. Julie has 15 years experience in Pharmaceutical R&D, mostly at GlaxoSmithKline. Her experience spans both pre-clinical and early clinical activities, with a particular specialization in central nervous system (CNS) target discovery. In addition to leading and managing multidisciplinary drug discovery project teams, Julie has headed departments in CNS research and has led initiatives to assist in the definition of broad therapeutic strategy and prioritization for the CNS therapeutic area. Julie is trained in pharmacology and behavioural neuroscience.

Steve Gardner PhD, Chief Technology Officer Steve Gardner leads the Technical Team at BioWisdom, which is responsible for the development of leading ontology curation, management and delivery technologies. Steve has 16 years experience in building innovative informatics technologies, products and companies in the life science domain. Prior to joining BioWisdom, Steve was founder and CEO of Synomics Ltd, an advanced data integration business, CTO of Viaken Systems, working on novel discovery applications integrating textual and structured data, and Senior Product Manager at Oxford Molecular responsible for all bioinformatics and modelling products. Steve was also Worldwide Director of Research Informatics for Astra AB, with broad responsibility for the management and delivery of all Astra's R&D information to 8 product companies. Steve has consulted widely and has designed and deployed enterprise informatics applications in a number of major pharmaceutical and biotechnology companies.
