Amadeus was established in 1997, raising its first fund, Amadeus I, in that year. This fund, which has invested £50 million in 24 companies, is now closed to new investments.
A second fund, Amadeus II, was raised in 2000 and continues to invest in all stages of financings of high-technology companies. In 2001, Amadeus established the Amadeus Mobile Seed Fund (AMSF) to invest in the mobile telecommunications sector. AMSF completed its first investment in 2002.
Amadeus is committed to nurturing its companies with a combination of management support and a global network of other technology investors and leaders. The Amadeus team brings to its portfolio companies a track record of building superior technology companies.
Staff
Anne brings together her many threads of experience – as a scientist, operating manager and venture capitalist. She has prior experience working in venture capital, first at Apax Partners & Co Ventures, where she was a member of the investment team for five years, and subsequently as a business angel investing in UK-based information technology start-ups. Anne has also had significant operating experience, most recently at Virtuality Group plc where she was COO of the virtual reality peripherals company. Earlier in her career, she held a variety of management positions with Cummins Engine, the US manufacturing company. Anne also spent five years with Bain & Co in Boston as a consultant and manager. She holds an MA in Metallurgy and Materials Science from Clare College, Cambridge and a Masters in Public and Private Management from Yale. On 1 April 2004, Anne was appointed Chairman of the British Venture Capital Association (BVCA), which represents around 165 UK-based private equity and venture capital firms, the vast majority of such firms in the UK. The BVCA is the public face of the industry, providing services to its members, investors and entrepreneurs as well as the UK government and media. For the past six years, Anne has been a member of the Council that runs the organisation, last year as Vice Chairman and in the previous five years as the Chairman of the Technology Subcommittee. | Hermann has a long history of success as a venture capitalist and entrepreneur. Companies he founded or co-founded include Acorn Computers, Active Book Company, Virata, Net Products, NetChannel, and Cambridge Network Limited. He was a founder director of IQ (Bio), IXI Limited, Vocalis, SynGenix, Advanced Displays Limited, Electronic Share Information Limited and E*Trade UK. However, Hermann\'s influence on the European computer and technology industry cannot be reflected in lists. Thanks to his work in the nascent personal computer industry in the UK in the 1980s, through his work at Acorn Computers and as vice president of research at Olivetti, Hermann has been instrumental in a vast range of industry developments. At Amadeus, Hermann continues to oversee a broad range of early and later stage developing technology companies, providing the benefit of his experience of turning scientific advances into real-world technology products to a new generation of entrepreneurs. Hermann holds an MA in Physics from Vienna University and a PhD in Physics from the Cavendish Laboratory at King\'s College, Cambridge. He is a Fellow of the Institute of Physics and of the Royal Academy of Engineering, an Honorary Fellow of King\'s College, Cambridge, Hermann holds honorary doctorates from the Universities of Bath, Loughborough and from Anglia Polytechnic, and was awarded an Honorary CBE for "innovative service to the UK enterprise sector" in 2001 |
Peter has long experience in providing direction and part-time financial management to young, high-potential companies in the Anglian region, where many of the UK high-technology start-ups are based. From 1985 until the founding of Amadeus, Peter worked with 33 companies in total, helping to raise finance for 15, helping to arrange five trade sales and participating in four corporate recoveries. Peter was finance director and CFO for Amadeus Capital Partners Limited until 2001 and again during 2003. He is now working as a venture partner, concentrating on the financial management systems and business planning of companies within the Amadeus portfolio, as well as potential investments. Peter’s background as a chartered accountant and financial manager has served him well in his role as consultant and venture capitalist. In the past he was director of finance for Acorn Computers and held a variety of financial management positions at International Computers. |
