ARK Geophysics and Oxford Instruments are shareholders in ARKeX and maintain a close interest in the new company’s progress.
The company was founded to provide services in airborne gravity gradiometry to the oil, gas and mining markets. It launched in March 2004 with venture capital of £4 million in a funding round co-led by Scottish Equity Partners and RWE Dynamics, who have each invested £1.5 million. Other investors include Nova Technology Partners, Eurovestech plc and the founders of Oxford Instruments, Sir Martin and Lady Wood.
The company raised £5.5 million in second-round funding in late 2005. Energy Ventures of Norway led the deal, and was joined by return backers Scottish Equity Partners, Dynamics and Eurovestech.
ARKeX provides services in feasibility modelling, survey planning, data processing and interpretation and recently started commercial gravity gradiometry surveys.

Dr John Lumley, co-founder of ARKeX, is the chief designer of the EGG technology which he developed while Director of Technology of Oxford Instruments Superconductivity. He is a world expert on low-noise, low-temperature instrumentation. He has more than 25 years experience in leading scientific and engineering teams. | John joins ARKeX with over 25 years of industry experience. He has worked in all aspects of operations from Party Chief on field crews for Western Geophysical, to Global Operations Manager for Western/Baker Hughes. Most recently, as Global Operations Support Manager for WesternGeco/Schlumberger, John guided the product development centres in Norway, delivering reliable and tested new technology to marine field crews. |
Kitty Hall, Chief Executive and co-founder of ARKeX, has a background in gravity geophysics. She led the spin-out of ARKeX from its founding companies ARK Geophysics (where she was MD) and Oxford Instruments. She has more than 25 years experience in management, sales and business development in airborne and marine geophysics. She is a geologist by training and holds an MSc in Stratigraphy. | Jeremy is a co-founder of ARKeX. Leader of the instrument team at OI prior to the spin-out and subsequently at ARKeX, Jeremy is a highly experienced instrument engineer and project manager in low temperature instrumentation gained during 15 years with Oxford Instruments. He holds a PhD in low temperature physics (Oxford) and an MBA. |
