Camrivox Ltd, a developer of computer telephony integration (CTI) software, has raised £1.2m from a consortium of investors. The over-subscribed funding round was led by NESTA Investments and involved existing shareholders and new investors.

The funding round involved existing shareholders, including founding investor and chairman, Phil O’Donovan, and Create Partners. New investors included Bank of Scotland Growth Equity who invested alongside business angel members of Oxford Investment Opportunity Network under their Co-Investment Programme arrangement.

Camrivox, located at St John's Innovation Park (pictured)  in Cambridge, will use the funding to develop its main product, ‘Flexor’, which provides CTI software for Customer Relationship Management applications in a way that is affordable and easy to implement for small and medium enterprises.

Acambis plc welcomed a US Department of Defense announcement that it is now transitioning to Acambis' ACAM2000 as its only smallpox vaccine. Since 2002, the Department has used Dryvax for its smallpox vaccinations. Dryvax was produced on calf lymph tissue and has not been made since 1982.

ACAM2000 was developed by Acambis under a contract with the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) to provide the US Government with a modern smallpox vaccine derived from Dryvax. ACAM2000 is produced using modern cell-culture manufacturing methods. Doses of ACAM2000 are being supplied to the Department of Defense by the CDC through the Strategic National Stockpile.

In a Department of Defense news release, Army Colonel Randall Anderson, Director of its Military Vaccine Agency, said: "The military needs the smallpox vaccine to inoculate troops against biological weapons that may contain the virus. Acambis will provide a long-term, stable supply of the vaccine manufactured within the United States."
